I spent last week with Coach Kiah in Ireland at her first ever International Women's Retreat (blog post coming next week). She is hosting a free "Summer of Self Love" Workshop aimed at loving your body, as it is now. When I got her email about her event, it reminded me of this exercise I did a year or so ago. It was part of a body image program that I participated in.
The assignment was to make a list of the things that I love about my body. After everything my body has been through in the last 6 years, battling two types of cancer, sometimes it's hard to love my body. I've gained some weight due to medications I am on and instant menopause (I had my ovaries taken out as part of the preventative measures to prevent the hormone positive breast cancer from returning) in 2019.
Here's my list:
I love my red, curly hair. My hair keeps my head warm and gives me a somewhat unique look that not everyone has. I’m forever grateful that with a little help from technology, I was able to keep my hair during chemo by using cold caps.
I love my green eyes. They used to be more hazel but they’ve turned more green as I’ve gotten older. I get compliments on them sometimes. My eyes allow me to see the world, take photos, and read. I love all 3 of those things!

I love my female parts because they allowed me to create and grow two beautiful babies that have turned into amazing young adults.
I love the scar on my chest from my chemo port. I appreciate it so much because it allowed me to receive my cancer-slaying chemo drugs without having to be poked in the arm by an IV.
I love my heart. Not only does my physical heart keep my body pumping with blood, but my emotional heart likes to do nice things for other people.
I love my legs because they get me where I need to go every minute of every day. They also allow me to go on walks with Andy, especially when we are on vacation. This is one of my favorite parts of going somewhere new.
I love my dimples. Someone once told me that dimples are a birth defect 🤷🏼♀️ but I don’t mind. When I’m truly happy and smile, my dimples really show through.
I love my smile. When I genuinely smile, I feel happy inside. I think everyone has the life goal to be happy. Smiling and laughing are some of the best feelings in the world.
I love my hands for so many reasons. My hands click the mouse button to book a vacation online. My hands can write a nice thank you card to someone. My hands can prepare a yummy cup of coffee in the morning. My hands can do so much!
Make your own list. What do you love about yourself? Write it down and make yourself proud.
