Life is a series of experiences, challenges, and moments that shape who we are and how we perceive the world around us. Often, the lens through which we view these experiences can profoundly influence our emotions, decisions, and overall well-being. This is where the art of changing perspective comes into play. One of my very favorite songs is "The Greatest" by Kenny Rogers. You can listen to it HERE. Do you like this song? It's really not about baseball. It's about changing your perspective. I'm adding the lyrics here in case you can't listen to it right now.

THE GREATEST
Little Boy, in a baseball hat; Stands in the field with his ball and bat; Says I am the greatest player of them all; Puts his bat on his shoulder and he tosses up his ball.
And the ball goes up and the ball comes down; Swings his bat all the way around; The world's so still you can hear the sound; The baseball falls to the ground.
Now the little boy doesn't say a word; Picks up his ball, he is undeterred; Says I am the greatest there has ever been; And he grits his teeth and he tries it again.
And the ball goes up and the ball comes down; Swings his bat all the way around; The world's so still you can hear the sound; The baseball falls to the ground.
He makes no excuses, He shows no fears; He just closes his eyes and listens to the cheers.
Little boy, in a baseball hat; Picks up his ball, stares at his bat; Says I am the greatest; the game is on the line; And he gives his all one last time.
And the ball goes up like the moon so bright; Swings his bat with all his might; And the world's so still as still can be; And the baseball falls, and that's strike three.
Now it's supper time and his mama calls; Little boy starts home with his bat and ball; Says I am the greatest that is a fact; But even I didn't know I could pitch like that.
He says I am the greatest that is understood; But even I didn't know I could pitch that good.
I've worked a lot on mindset over the past couple years. Changing your mindset is not just an abstract concept; it's a tangible and transformative process that can reshape your life in amazing ways. Embracing a growth mindset, fostering resilience, nurturing creativity, and cultivating healthy relationships are just a few of the benefits that come from changing the way you think. There are countless books out there that can help with this. A simple google search can suggest some options. Send me a message if you want to know which books I like.
One thing I would recommend as a simple starting point is this: Reframe Your Thoughts. Once you've identified a limiting belief, reframe it into a more positive and empowering statement. For example, change "I can't do this" to "I am capable of learning and improving." Try this a few times and see how it works for you. It's a pretty powerful way to take baby steps towards knowing how to change your thoughts, for the better.
Start changing your mindset today and watch as your life transforms before your very eyes. Pretty soon, you'll be saying things like "I didn't know I could pitch that good" but you'll substitute "pitch" with whatever you need in your life at the time. Try it- make yourself proud!
