Make yourself proud

Hi, I am Sarah. You may be wondering why I am blogging about my life. My “why” goes back a few years to when I was diagnosed with breast cancer… stay with me here. Do you ever go looking for something, google it, and just don’t find what you’re looking for? Yep, me too. I treaded lightly on the research of breast cancer because there are a lot of scary stories, websites, and photos out there. What I was looking for wasn’t really out there. I wanted to know how people felt and what it was like to go through treatments.

Since I couldn’t find what I wanted, I decided to create something and share my story as a way to help fill that void. I started a blog which you can see in its entirety *HERE.* I will use some of the posts and info in future posts here. That was my first reason for blogging about what I was going through. My second reason was to have a journal for myself. Something I could look back on. I’m very glad I did that because I don’t remember a lot of what happened. I will share more of that story later on.

How did I come up with the title of this, “Make Yourself Proud”? I struggled coming up with a title even though I had a road map of how I wanted the blogging to go. I have a sign in my office that I painted at Sweet Evergreen a few years ago. It’s a small square sign but it says “Make Yourself Proud” on it. It was like a lightbulb moment! I knew it would be perfect.

What does “Make Yourself Proud” mean to me? Can I tell you a little secret? I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone this before, but I like when someone tells me that they are proud of me (even if I get slightly embarrassed). And I don’t think it happens enough. When I realized that, I thought to myself, why is that such a big deal for someone to tell me they’re proud of me? I still don’t have the answer to that but it made me realize that I need to be proud of MYSELF! You know what they say about not worrying about what other people think and that what others think of you is none of your business. Same idea, right? So there ya have it, that’s why this blog title is so important to me.
