Do you listen to podcasts? Less than a year ago, I didn't appreciate the value of podcasts. The first podcast series I listened to was a true crime podcast called In Your Own Backyard. I like true crime, but this one hit differently. It was about the disappearance of Kristen Smart from Cal Poly, SLO in May of 1996. I was at Cal Poly then. -- it was the end of my third year. She lived in the same dorm as I did in 1993-94 so it was very weird. It was surreal to listen to the podcaster, Chris Lambert, describe everything that happened.

When I went to Emily Reuschel's Ascend Retreat in March, I was exposed to 18 amazing women.... some of which host some of my favorite podcasts that I listen to weekly. {By the way, Emily's next retreat is in Gulf Shores, Alabama and there are spaces left (as I publish this post). Go check it out! Here's a LINK to her site.} If you missed my post about the Ascend Retreat, click HERE. Back to the podcast topic....

Here are some of my favorite podcasts. As you can probably tell, I like the ones that are aimed at personal development, especially for women in small towns and rural areas... first on the list are ones hosted by Ascend coaches or attendees....

Climbing with Coach Kiah with Kiah Twisselman Burchett: I met Kiah a couple years ago. We serve on the California Beef Council together. She was the only person that I knew going into the Ascend Retreat. I love listening to her podcast every Wednesday because she is the same person on the podcast as she is in-person. She is so insightful and encouraging about loving yourself and your body as it is right now. She has struggled with body image for a big part of her life. Her outlook on that topic, especially, is so inspiring to me. She also talks about other things that really speak to me like JOMO (joy of missing out); mindset; imposter syndrome; measuring health without a scale; and so much more.

Gather in Growth with Emily Reuschel: Emily is the creator of the Ascend Retreat that I went to and the Mastermind Group that I participate in every two weeks. Both of these things have had a HUGE impact on my personal and business life. I love getting a weekly dose of Emily's inspiration via her podcast every Thursday. She talks about setting goals, creating habits, being a farm wife, imposter syndrome, and so much more.

Emerging as Me with Kaitlin Cox: Kaitlin is one of the amazing women that I met at Ascend. She just started hosting her very own podcast and I am so proud of her for doing it. She is just getting started and I can't wait to see where she takes this. She is a farm wife and mom to two boys. I love seeing (on Instagram) and hearing about what she and her boys are up to. Oh, and yours truly will be a future guest on her podcast. Stay tuned for that...

Midwest Farm Wives with Kylie Epperson and Whitney Larson: Kylie was another one of the fantastic coaches at Ascend. She has a House of Colour business and I love her perspective on adding (the right) colors into your life. I haven't met Whitney in person but I feel like I know her from her Instagram stories and this podcast. She is the creator of Cultivating Courage which happens every year in Colby, Kansas. Some year I hope to attend. Kylie and Whitney talk about all things motherhood, farm wife, and rural living. I love their stories about their kiddos and living in a rural area. These two ladies are awesome advocates for agriculture.

The other two that I listen to regularly are:

Business Minimalist with Jade Boyd. Jade is a business coach and she has some great insight on ways to improve your business. I haven't listened to all of her episodes yet, but my favorite one so far is called, "Curating a Productive Environment for Goal Setting." The reason that I love this so much is that I struggle with goals. Even more, I struggle with having the right mindset for working on goals. Check it out!

Goal Digger with Jenna Kutcher: I've listened to a lot of Jenna's episodes and I am part way through her book, How are you really? I really like what she has to say about online marketing, ways to use AI (artificial intelligence, not artificial insemination for all you livestock people) for your business, and using your "story" to promote your business. There are a lot of episodes I haven't had a chance to listen to yet. Check it out!

I don't ever see myself hosting a podcast, but hey, you never know. I like to use this blog to share my story and what is going on in my life. We all have our ways to share.... what's yours? If you don't have one, try one out. Find a way to make yourself proud!
