003- Today in Prop Mgmt: 10 of the best (or most entertaining) excuses we’ve heard from tenants

1. “I can't pay my rent because I haven’t received my paycheck and I think my boss is avoiding me. He isn’t returning any of my calls.”

2. “I know I still owe rent. My car is broken down and the bus takes a lot of energy.”

3. “I learned to never loan my rent money out again- especially to family.”

4. “I will get caught up when I get my tax refund.” (this was in November)

5. “Sorry I’m late. I found my rent check in the bottom of my purse.”

6. “Sorry I can’t pay my rent. My girlfriend spent all our savings while I was out of town.”

7. “I was attacked by bees and had to take my clothes off. Then I couldn’t find my money.”

8. “I can’t make it in today to pay rent because I’m canning pumpkins.”

9. “The post office stole my money order so I can’t pay rent.”

10. “My power bill is too high- can you lower my rent?”

We all have financial issues that come up from time to time. We are willing to work with tenants if they communicate with us. Our advice is, over-communicate and follow through. Make yourself proud!
